S

hane Hollander (born May 10, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and the captain of the Montreal Voyageurs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Since being drafted 2nd overall in 2009, Hollander has become the face of the Voyageurs franchise and is widely considered one of the most talented and disciplined players in the league. He is a three-time Stanley Cup champion (2015, 2016, 2020).

Early Life and Junior Career

Shane was born and raised in Ottawa, the only child of David and Yuna Hollander. He is half-Japanese on his mother’s side. A "hockey prodigy" from a young age, Shane played AAA hockey in Kingston before captaining the Canadian National Junior Team in 2008 and 2009, leading them to a Gold Medal victory over Russia in 2009.

Professional Career

Montreal Voyageurs (2010–Present)

Drafted 2nd overall in 2009, Hollander made his NHL debut in the 2010-11 season. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) in 2011, narrowly beating out rival Ilya Rozanov.

Known for his "boring" and hyper-disciplined lifestyle, Hollander was eventually named Captain of the Voyageurs. He led the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2015 and 2016. Most recently, in June 2020, Hollander captained the Voyageurs to his third Stanley Cup victory, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

The Hollander-Rozanov Rivalry

The central narrative of Hollander's career is his decade-long rivalry with Boston Bears star Ilya Rozanov. The media portrays them as polar opposites: Hollander as the earnest, clean-cut Canadian hero, and Rozanov as the arrogant, "bad boy" Russian. Publicly, the two maintain a frostily professional relationship, though they are frequently paired together for high-profile marketing campaigns (such as CCM and Rolex).
